According to recent reports, the US Military will soon be deploying airships above Washington DC as a defensive measure, to help protect against air attacks. As seen on highly respected uber-Geek news source Slashdot (and various other less geeky websites such as Reuters), blimps filled with helium and fitted out with radar will float majestically above our nation’s capital as soon as the end of September this year.
I don’t know if this is creepy or what. I’m surprised: I thought blimps were the technology of yester-year. Is someone at NORAD a closet Steampunk fan-boy? I don’t see what other logical explanation there could be for this.
Let’s hope that, at the very least, whoever is responsible for outfitting DC with these zeppelins has a sense of style. Please don’t bring the bustle back next.
